Democratising the economy


Power and instability of the financial sphere is the title of the first forum in this thread. Gérard Dumenil (Attac France), Erik Reinert (Norwegian economist), Stephan Schilling (Attac Germay) and Karin Küblböck (Attac Austria) are asked talk over the financial crisis of the 2000s and the question how to regulate the financial markets.

Dominique Plihon (Attac France), Anne Karras (Attac Germany) and Jorma Penttinen (Attac Finland) will discuss in the second forum Economic policies of the EU centering aroung questions like: What are the policies of the European Central Bank aimed at? What is our answer to tax evasion and the "race to the bottom" in fiscal policies?

Which economic concept gives people the power and chance to have a say? This is the central question of the third forum. We will deal with the role of  trade unions when it comes to initiate a profound change. Viviana Uriona (Attac Germany) will focus on the possibilities of a solidary economy. In this panel, together with Jean Luc Touly, a French campaigner for water issues, we will dwell on the question of renewing and expanding the public sector. Elisabeth Klatzer (Attac Austria) will address the role of the woman in the neoliberal economy and present the concept of “gender budgeting”.
